Our Best Features
Groups can offer a safe environment.
DBT is designed to help those who experience strong emotions or behave in ways that are ineffective. Groups offer a safe environment in which you are able to feel respected and valued and you learn skills to move forward.
Groups provide support.
Speaking in a confidential setting with people who may have had experiences similar to your own helps you recognize that you are not alone. Groups help us see situations from a variety of perspectives.
Groups create space for change.
The intention of DBT Skills Training is learning skills that increase an individual’s ability to have a life worth living, not to immediately “feel better”. If we want to create change in our world, we have to change the chains of events that cause unwanted behaviors and events.
About Our Groups
The foundational skills and dialectical approach of DBT will help individuals build self-control over impulsive behaviors and move away from all-or-nothing thinking to a more balanced approach with their internal emotional experience and external relationships. Our DBT Skills Groups meet weekly for an hour and a half. Each module is eight weeks long and new members can join at the beginning of each module. DBT Skills Group participants must currently be meeting regularly with an individual therapist outside of the group. This can be one of the DBT-trained therapists at Into Balance or another qualified therapist. An initial consultation session is required prior to the beginning of the group.
DBT Skills Groups Teach:
- Mindfulness
- Distress Tolerance
- Interpersonal Effectiveness
- Emotional Regulation
